Why We Love this Lip Balm
My daughter and I have found comfort and joy in the form of homemade lip balm. Whenever I put this pumpkin spice lip balm on my lips, I feel instantly more hydrated, smooth, and moisturized. However for my daughter, she’s mostly interested in a little taste of maple syrup and cinnamon 🙂
Lip balms and chapsticks can be so expensive, especially the “natural” ones. With this homemade lip balm, it requires such few ingredients that you can keep making homemade products and save money too.
Often times lip balms and chapsticks at the store are watered down and don’t do as good of a job at moisturizing as when you make them homemade.
This pumpkin spice lip balm is naturally flavored with maple syrup, cinnamon, and clove, and has all the natural moisturizing properties of beeswax and oil. It is all together luxurious, delicious, and extremely affordable.
When the cold, dry weather arrives, the chapped, dry lips come back year after year. This homemade lip balm hydrates my dry lips and keeps them soft and smooth while living permanently in my purse or backpack.

Homemade Lip Balm Ingredients
Beeswax.
Beeswax helps this lip balm hold its shape and provides tremendous benefits for the skin! As a naturally occurring, nourishing ingredient, beeswax is a popular choice in homemade skin care.
Beeswax is the product of choice for lip balm because it seals in moisture and protects the skin from the elements. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that may help with a variety of skin issues such as eczema, itching, and allergies (source).
Jojoba oil.
Jojoba oil is a very gentle oil that comes from the nut of the jojoba plant, a North American perennial. This natural oil moisturizes the skin and contains antioxidants, which help protect skin from oxidative stress (source).
Jojoba oil is noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic, and soothes irritated skin. Because it’s so gentle, jojoba oil is an ideal moisturizer for areas with sensitive skin, such as the face and lips.

Equipment Needed

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Lip Balm Ingredients
2 tbsp beeswax
6 tbsp jojoba oil
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp clove
1 tbsp maple syrup
How to Make Lip Balm
Make a double broiler by placing a small glass bowl inside a large pot with about an inch of water.

Bring to a boil and add the ingredients to the glass bowl.

Let simmer until the beeswax is completely melted and stir frequently.
Note: be sure to have your lip balm tubes and pouring funnel ready to go. Once you pull the mixture from the stove, the beeswax dries quickly so you want to work fast!
Once melted, remove from heat and let cool for only 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously.
Use a funnel or a bowl with a pouring spout to pour the mixture into the lip balm tubes. Fill to the top. Let sit for about 10 minutes and then put the lids on and enjoy.
To clean the glass pot out, use a spoon or paper towel with your finger nails to scrape the beeswax out of the bowl. This is the hard part about working with beeswax, but eventually you will get it all out! And the smell of cinnamon and clove while you clean the bowl is delightful.
