· Homesteading in the City, Main Dishes
You know I’ve dreamt of being a farm to table girl almost my whole life, so the first time we bought a quarter cow was ever so exciting. It’s the best meat, from cows fed in your area, from farmers you can actually talk to. In this post I go into all the details about the benefits of buying local, how you can find the best meat near you, and what our quarter cow unload looked like. Oh, and I share 9 ways to start homesteading in the city. Thanks for stopping by the farmhouse!

· Bone Broth Recipes, Main Dishes, Roasts
The perfect pot roast falls off the bone, is juicy and tender, and melts in your mouth. We love roasts here at the homestead. There is something so satisfying about putting your meat, veggies, and bone broth in one pot and letting it sit for several hours while you work or do other errands. And then coming back to a delicious meal. It’s almost like you did no work at all! This perfect pot roast recipe has everything you need to get that fall-off-the-bone, tender juicy meat for you and your family.

One of my favorite parts about spring is the whole brunch idea! You can enjoy brunch any time of year, but spring seems to be a popular time for brunch. I just think of going to church on Easter Sunday and then coming home and enjoying brunch with a mimosa. Or Christmas Day, because we eat cookies early in the morning so the hearty brunch follows later. Even if it’s just your average Sunday, brunch is always a good idea. Your whole family will love this brunch menu!

· Main Dishes, Seasonal Decorating
To kick off the spring season, we hosted a family brunch. So I got the table ready in the most simple form, like I normally do. Fresh flowers (tulips!), a beige and lavender table runner handmade by a local farm to us, and a sweet simple plate setting. I have this way of folding napkins that I really like. You basically take a square cloth napkin and fold it in half twice to form a triangle, and then tuck both corners inward (see tutorial below). Then you have the option of adding silverware, small flowers, or in this case I added some Easter straw “bedding” for spring. I couldn’t wait for my family to come over and see our spring brunch table!

Add some spring farmhouse charm to your home with this homemade wreath with sweet daisies. With two indoor cats, flowers on the table in vases become spilled water pretty quickly. So I’ve become a big fan of homemade wreaths and wall-hanging floral arrangements. Homemade wreaths are perfect because they are a way to display fresh flowers but kept out of reach of little ones. And, I just love making them 🙂 Learn how to make a spring farmhouse wreath with fresh flowers in this simple tutorial.

· Decorating the Home, Kitchen, Seasonal Decorating
There is nothing like the first warm sun on your face on a Sunday afternoon after weeks of a cold, dark winter. As soon as the kitchen is filled with all that natural light, I start organizing it and getting it ready for spring. Ah, what a refreshing time that is. I gathered fresh food from our local farm stand, hung some herbs for drying, and of course put some cut flowers in a vase. Join me for a tour of our farmhouse kitchen in the spring!

When our local coffee store posted on Instagram that they were giving away a free side table, I immediately thought of the perfect DIY project. I think that’s called having a DIY brain. Well for a few dollars worth of paint and not even an entire afternoon, I had myself a sweet vintage side table. If you’ve never refinished wood before, it’s easy! Keep reading to see how we did this DIY refinished antique side table for $10 and only a couple hours!

We had an awkward empty space in our garage that had some flimsy shelves in it before we built this custom garage shelf. With the garage being right next to our kitchen, it made a lot of sense to invest some time and effort into getting a good shelf to hold food and other items. Read on to see how we built this easy DIY garage shelf!

· Soup
When I first started making homemade bone broth, I couldn’t believe how easy it was to do. I had been spending anywhere from $5 to $10 on store-bought bone broth, that we would use instantly and go through quickly. I thought there was some magic trick to making bone broth and I imagined some crazy process of stripping bones and turning it into soup. No, I couldn’t have been more wrong! Bone broth is such a natural food to make. Simply take bones, add water, add apple cider vinegar, and simmer for a long time. In this post I show you two ways that we make bone broth from scratch at the homestead.

You may be wondering why grocery stores are stocked with bone broth now a days. The making of bone broth dates back to when our ancestors wanted to use every part of an animal for nutrition.
